On September 16, 2019, DCI detectives made a significant breakthrough in the Nairobi West ATM Heist case, arresting two Machakos county-based suspects.

Among those arrested was 60-year-old Mary Kyalo, who was apprehended at her home in Kalumoni village, Machakos county. The detectives recovered KES 2,389,000 from her residence.

According to reports, Mary's grandson, John Kamau Mulei, led the detectives to her home after being arrested at Muumandu village in Machakos county. Mulei is believed to be a close relation to a G4S officer who provided crucial inside information that aided the theft.

The ATM Heist, which occurred on an unknown date, is reported to have been orchestrated with the help of an inside man and stray police officers. On September 12, 2019, detectives had arrested a G4S officer suspected of being part of the gang that stole KES 72 million.

Mary and Kamau will undergo questioning at the DCI offices to determine their respective roles in the ATM Heist.
