On September 8, 2019, a tragic incident occurred in Soweto Village, Kahawa West, where a 2 and 9 months old baby, Dan Githinji, was allegedly hit by a stray bullet during a police operation.

The Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) has begun investigating the incident, as required by Section 25(1) of the IPOA Act, which mandates them to investigate any death or serious injury caused by police action.

According to IPOA Chairperson Anne Makori, the authority will make appropriate recommendations and forward the investigation file to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions after the probe is complete.

The IPOA is also investigating three other cases, including the deaths of five-year-old Daisy Chepkoech, Mr. Samuel Njenga Njogoo, and an unidentified matatu driver.

These incidents highlight the need for accountability and transparency in police operations, and the IPOA's investigation is a crucial step towards ensuring justice for the victims and their families.
