Bodybuilder Tries Victoria's Secret Model Diet ¶
On September 14, 2019, YouTuber MattDoesFitness decided to try the Victoria's Secret model diet for a day, with surprising results.
According to Matt, a typical day on the Victoria's Secret model diet consists of:
- Drinking apple cider vinegar first thing in the morning
- Breakfast: Half an avocado with half a grapefruit, sprinkled with cinnamon
- Breakfast alternatives include a green smoothie, and an egg white omelet with spinach and turkey
- Lunch: Green salad with vegetables and lean protein
- Afternoon snack: A handful of nuts or berries
- Dinner: Carbohydrates such as brown rice, sweet potato, or quinoa, served with lean protein and a side of steamed vegetables
However, Matt was not a fan of the halved avocado, saying it belonged on toast or in a sandwich. He was also skeptical of the apple cider vinegar, which he claimed made him feel sick.
Despite his reservations, Matt attempted to follow the diet, starting with a shot of apple cider vinegar. He later said, "I've solved the mystery of why apple cider vinegar helps you lose weight. You literally feel sick constantly after eating it."
There is some scientific evidence to support the claim that apple cider vinegar can aid weight loss, but it also comes with a risk of side effects, such as damage to teeth and bones.
For lunch, Matt had a green salad with chicken breast, which he explained would help reduce calorie intake ahead of a show. He said, "When you drop carbs in your diet drastically, all those stores in your muscles are going to go... you'll lose weight and size really quickly, so I guess for a catwalk model that's ideal."
Ending the day on a dinner of quinoa and salmon with broccoli, spinach, and carrots, Matt finally felt full, but predicted that he would soon feel hungry again. He concluded that it's actually a pretty healthy diet in terms of ingredients, just not in those low amounts, which are unsuitable for his lifestyle.
"It's not a magic diet," he said. "Ultimately, if you reduce the amount of calories you consume, you're going to lose fat, you're going to lose weight, but you're going to lose muscle as well."
