David De Gea's Contract Expiring at Manchester United ¶
Published on September 13, 2019
Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea's contract is set to expire at the end of the current season, with the club's manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer expressing confidence that the player will sign a new deal.
De Gea joined Manchester United from Atletico Madrid in 2011 and has been the club's number one goalkeeper since then. He has been impressive for the club, but his stay at Old Trafford is gradually winding down as his contract expires next year.
However, Solskjaer believes that De Gea will sign a new long-term deal with the club. The manager has expressed his desire for De Gea to stay at Manchester United, saying, "I want David to stay here. He knows that and he's the best goalkeeper in the world, we've seen that over the years and I hope I can make sure he'll finish his career at Man United at the highest level."
Meanwhile, Manchester United legend Edwin Van der Sar has urged the club not to be afraid to look elsewhere if De Gea does not wish to commit to a new deal. Van der Sar said, "The decision needs to come at a certain point. It takes a long time now, so it's a case of 'yes' or 'no', but I'm not a director of United."
De Gea is reportedly pushing for a salary of around £350,000 per week, which could be a major factor in his decision to sign a new deal with Manchester United.
