Kenya's Wambui and Ng'eno Secure Spots at Doha World Championships

Kenya's hopes for a strong showing at the 2019 Doha World Championships received a boost with the selection of Ng'eno Kipng'etich and Jackline Wambui for the men's and women's 800m events, respectively.

At the trials held recently, Kipng'etich pulled off a stunning upset, beating Emmanuel Korir in a thrilling sprint finish with a time of 1:44.57.

Korir finished second in 1:44.62, while Ferguson Rotich took third place in 1:44.63, securing the final spot for Kenya in the men's 800m event.

On the women's side, Wambui, the 2017 World Under-18 800m champion, dominated the field with a time of 1:58.79, leaving 2013 World 800m champion Eunice Sum in second place with a time of 1:58.99.

Emily Tuwei rounded out the top three with a time of 1:59.23.
