On September 13, 2019, Kenya Breweries Limited (KBL) made a significant announcement in the world of Kenyan sports: a Sh115 million sponsorship deal to support rugby in the country.

The deal, which was announced on Friday, will see KBL's Tusker brand support various rugby tournaments run by the Kenya Rugby Union (KRU).

Of the Sh115 million, Sh37.5 million will be dedicated to supporting KRU's activities, including the men's and women's national Sevens and Fifteens teams.

The investment will also be used to nurture rugby talent in Kenya, with a focus on supporting rugby clubs across the country and universities.

According to KBL Managing Director Jane Karuku, the deal is a deep commitment to growing and developing the sport of rugby in Kenya.

“On behalf of the Kenya Breweries Limited, we are delighted to announce this investment in the sport of rugby in the country. Ours is not just an investment, it is also a deep commitment to growing and developing the sport of rugby in the country with both the present and the future in mind,” said Mrs Karuku.

The deal will also see Sh20 million dedicated to the Safari Sevens, Sh10 million to the Kenya Sevens team, Sh5 million to international matches, and Sh2.5 million to the Kenya Lionesses team.

Kenya Rugby Union Chairman Oduor Gangla thanked Tusker for the support given to the sport, saying it promises to be a great march forward for players and fans.
