On September 13, 2019, the body of Tob Cohen, a Dutch tycoon who had lived in Kenya for 32 years, was found in a septic tank at his Kitusuru residence in Nairobi.
Cohen, the former CEO of Philips Electronics East Africa, had gone missing between July 19 and 20 after filing a divorce case against his Kenyan wife, Sarah Wairimu Kamotho.
Wairimu was arrested and detained at Muthaiga police station in connection with Cohen's disappearance, which she claimed was a result of his mental illness.
However, Cohen had alleged that Wairimu was plotting to have him deported to the Netherlands by colluding with police officers to prosecute him over an assault case he claimed was fabricated.
Before his disappearance, Cohen had filed an assault case against Wairimu, alleging that she had denied him his conjugal rights and was plotting to abuse the criminal justice system.
A Nairobi court had ordered a mental health evaluation for Wairimu to determine whether she was fit to face trial, but the defence team had opposed the preferred charges, citing the non-existence of Cohen's body.
