Published on September 13, 2019, Pitch AgriHack, a competition organised by the Technical Centre for Agricultural and Rural Cooperation (CTA) to support young agricultural entrepreneurs, has awarded over £60,000 to several startups for their innovations transforming agriculture in Africa.
The competition, which was launched in 2019 with support from the Alliance for a Green Revolution in Africa (AGRA), OCP Group, GreenTec Group, the World Bank, and the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), among others, aimed to support young entrepreneurs in the agricultural sector.
The winners of the competition include Profish from Ghana, which received €7,500, and Savanna Circuit Tech from Kenya, which received €5,000. Jaguza Tech from Uganda received €15,000, while Arinifu Technologies from Kenya received €12,500. Trackball Global Technologies from Nigeria was awarded the public choice award of €5,000.
Additionally, Foodlocker Limited from Nigeria received the Data Analytics Award of €10,000, and TechShelta Company Ltd. from Ghana received the GreenTec award of €5,000.
According to Michael Hailu, Director of CTA, the competition has been a rewarding legacy for the organisation, which has pioneered support for digital entrepreneurship among young people in the agricultural sector.
Since the launch of the AgriHack Talent initiative, the services of entrants have reached over one million farmers and agricultural stakeholders, and they have raised over €2 million from investors and partners.
