Virgil Van Dijk Falls Short of Premier League Best Defender Title

Despite being the current best defender in Europe, Virgil van Dijk has been voted the second-best Premier League defender in history, behind Manchester United legend Nemanja Vidic.

Van Dijk, who won the UEFA Player of the Year award in September, has been on a winning streak since winning the Champions League last summer.

However, in a recent poll conducted by Sky Sports, Van Dijk failed to get past Vidic, who claimed five league titles and the Champions League with Manchester United.

Van Dijk, who has been in the running for FIFA's The Best Men's Player of the Year prize, ended up in the second spot behind Vidic, who was voted the greatest Premier League centre-back of all time.

Other notable defenders who were eliminated in the poll include Vincent Kompany, Tony Adams, John Terry, and Rio Ferdinand.

Van Dijk's loss to Vidic has sparked a debate among football fans, with some arguing that the Liverpool centre-back is the all-time best Premier League defender.

However, Vidic's impressive record and achievements in the Premier League have earned him the top spot in the poll.

Van Dijk's recent exploits in the Premier League and Champions League have made him a strong contender for the title, but it seems that Vidic's legacy has cemented his place as the greatest Premier League centre-back of all time.
