Published on September 13, 2019, former Arsenal legend Nwankwo Kanu has expressed his disappointment over the Gunners' decision to sell Nigerian star Alex Iwobi to Everton.

Speaking on Iwobi's form at Goodison Park, Kanu believes that the 23-year-old was gravely underrated during his time at Arsenal. He feels that the constant pressure of producing goals at a top-six club led to great expectations that brought a level of unappreciation, despite some top performances.

'I would say they made a mistake, 100 per cent. Why they let him go, I don’t know,' Kanu said. 'He’s a boy who, in and out, is Arsenal. He always wanted to do his best for the club. He loves the club, but not only that he can play football.'

Kanu, who feels that Iwobi was undervalued, could not understand the logic behind the decision to sell him. He believes that Iwobi's dedication and love for the club made him an asset that should not have been let go.

'What he brings week in, week out, the fans need to appreciate that,' the former Super Eagles star added.

Despite the entry of Ivorian Nicolas Pepe to Arsenal and the impressive form they are showing, Kanu still believes that Unai Emery would have been better off keeping Iwobi.

'I think he is still young and those are the type of people you want in the team, people who grew up here, who know everything about the club and wants to die for the club,' Kanu said.
