Kenya's Foreign Affairs Cabinet Secretary Monica Juma has been given 10 days to confirm whether Mwende Mwinzi has renounced her US citizenship before taking up the role as envoy to South Korea.

Ms Mwinzi was approved by Parliament in June as Kenya's envoy to South Korea on condition that she renounces her foreign citizenship before taking up the matter.

Appearing before the National Assembly Defence and Foreign Relations Committee, Dr Juma said the ministry was keen on handling the matter, which she described as unprecedented.

Committee chairman Moitalel ole Kenta directed that the ministry cease spending more money in training Mwende Mwinzi until she makes a decision to renounce her dual citizenship.

Ms Mwinzi is yet to take up the role as she is still being trained by the ministry.
