On Thursday, September 12, 2019, Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru faced a tense situation during the official opening of the Kagumo market at Mutira Ward in Kirinyaga Central Constituency.
Waiguru's visit to the market, constructed by the county government, turned sour after she declared that she would not allow area MCA David Kinyua Wangui or any other leader perceived to be against her to address the gathering.
Supporters of the MCA, however, turned rowdy, forcing Waiguru to give in and allow the MCA to address the residents.
After handing the microphone to Mr. Wangui, the locals calmed down. Addressing the gathering, Mr. Wangui said he fully supported Governor Waiguru's development agenda despite their political differences.
Mr. Wangui denied that he was undermining the county boss or hurling insults at her. The MCA, who is a supporter of the Tanga Tanga movement and a critic of the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI), clarified his stance.
After the address, Waiguru, who is a supporter of the BBI, was led away under tight police security.
