On September 12, 2019, Mike 'The Situation' Sorrentino was released from Otisville Federal Correctional Institution in New York, where he had been serving an eight-month sentence for tax evasion.

According to People, Sorrentino and his wife Lauren Pesce expressed their gratitude to their family, friends, and fans for their support during this time, saying, "We are elated to finally close this chapter of our life. Thank you to our family, friends and fans for the continuous love and support during this time, it brought us so much peace and comfort. We look forward to continuing our life as husband and wife and working on baby situations! We truly believe that the comeback is ALWAYS greater than the setback and we can’t wait to show the world ours."

Sorrentino had reported to the facility in February 2019, after pleading guilty to one count of tax evasion in January 2018. He was also sentenced to 500 hours of community service and fined $133,913.

With his release, speculation is growing about a potential new season of Jersey Shore: Family Vacation, with a camera crew spotted back at the house where Sorrentino filmed with his castmates before beginning his sentence.
