On September 12, 2019, a devastating incident occurred in Nairobi's Industrial Area when a perimeter wall collapsed on shanties near Likoni roundabout, claiming three lives and leaving 11 others seriously injured.
Two of the deceased, a man and a woman, died instantly, while another man was pronounced dead on arrival at Coptic Hospital.
A team of rescuers from St John Ambulance responded to the 1pm incident and evacuated the injured to various hospitals, including Coptic and Kenyatta National Hospital.
According to St John Ambulance's Communications Manager Fred Majiwa, investigations are ongoing to determine the possible cause of the collapse, with officials suspecting poor workmanship.
Just last year, a similar incident occurred in Kahawa Wendani, Kiambu County, where one person died and two others were seriously injured when a wall bordering a building under construction collapsed.
