Published on September 12, 2019, Samuel Gateri, a witness in the high-profile case linking Dennis Itumbi to a letter allegedly linking Deputy President William Ruto to an assassination plot, has been charged with two counts.
On Thursday, Gateri was charged with falsifying a document and purporting it to be from a Cabinet Secretary, as well as publishing the false document.
According to court records, Gateri had earlier claimed that he was arrested on July 2, 2019, and that detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) forcibly seized his cellphones, national ID card, and other personal items.
He further alleged that the officers threatened to take him to high-ranking security personnel in the government so that he could be dealt with.
However, the Prosecution indicated that the matter will be consolidated with that of Dennis Itumbi, the other suspect in the case.
Gateri pleaded not guilty to both counts and was released on a cash bail of Ksh.100,000.
