At the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, athletes' speed will be tracked in near real-time using a cutting-edge technology called 3DAT, developed by Intel.

According to a video released by Intel, the 3DAT system uses colorful augmented overlays to identify the top runners and display their speeds in real-time.

As athletes run along the track, a color trail appears behind them, changing with their speeds at different points, giving viewers a unique visual representation of their performance.

3DAT works by leveraging AI and computer vision, allowing broadcasters to add the tracking data live during the event.

Yiannis Exarchos, the executive director of Olympic Channel Services, believes that 3DAT will not only track athletes' speed but also provide new insights into the different phases of sprinting events during the track and field competition.

With its ability to understand the form and motion of athletes, 3DAT promises to revolutionize the way viewers experience the Olympics.
