Published on September 12, 2019, the raw food diet has gained popularity among those seeking a more extreme approach to veganism. While some proponents of this diet choose to eat only plant-based foods, others consume raw eggs, unpasteurized dairy, and even occasionally eat raw meat or fish.
Supporters of raw foodism argue that cooking food destroys its natural enzymes, thereby reducing its nutritional content and making it detrimental to human health. To prepare their food, raw foodists often resort to whole food consumption, juicing, blending, soaking, dehydrating, or sprouting.
One of the benefits of a raw food diet is the avoidance of processed and junk foods, sugars, and oils, which can lead to diet-related lifestyle diseases. Additionally, raw foodists tend to consume lower-calorie diets, resulting in weight loss. However, many individuals following this diet suffer from dietary deficiencies, which can have long-term side effects such as low bone mass and tooth erosion.
