On 11 September 2019, Majority Leader Aden Duale clashed with Kikuyu Member of Parliament Kimani Ichung'wa over the latter's use of the phrase 'tanga tanga' in parliament.
Ichung'wa had stated that he was well-versed with government projects because he had been 'tangatangaring', a comment that did not sit well with Duale.
Duale insisted that the phrase should be banned from parliamentary use, describing it as an un-English word.
He warned Ichung'wa not to spread the 'tanga tanga' movement agenda in parliament and threatened to whip him out of the Budget Committee if he continued to use the phrase.
Ichung'wa's comment had sparked a heated debate in parliament, with Duale urging his fellow parliamentarians to refrain from using the phrase.
