The White Cap Nairobi International Polo Championships is set to kick off at Nairobi Polo Club, with top-notch players from Kenya, South Africa, New Zealand, United Kingdom, Tanzania, Argentina, and Australia expected to arrive today.
Charles Seavil, a renowned player from the United Kingdom, will serve as the chief umpire for the tournament.
The competition will feature 6-goal matches this weekend, ahead of the 14-goal championship at the same venue next weekend.
Among the star attractions are three South Africans in handicap six: Tom De Bruin, Guy Watson, and Rory Twort, as well as Gareth Evans and Brad Mac Gibbon.
The contest has been grouped into eight teams, with round-robin matches taking place tomorrow afternoon, followed by knockout stages on Saturday and Sunday.
Nairobi Polo Club vice-chairman Raphael Nzomo expressed confidence in hosting a successful tournament, saying, "It helps us in exposing our young players before we embark on the senior tournament next weekend. It has attracted some of the world's best players."
