On September 11, 2019, the Catholic Diocese of Murang'a issued a directive banning politicians from participating in church activities.
Former Jubilee Party Vice Chairperson David Murathe confirmed that Kieleweke leaders have been directed to respect this directive, which was announced by Bishop James Maria Wainaina.
The directive, which includes cancelling existing invitations, was issued in response to a recent incident at Gitui Catholic Church where Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro clashed with Nominated MP Maina Kamanda over who should invite guests.
Mr. Murathe condemned the incident and called on Tangatanga faction leaders to follow suit, suggesting that politicians should arrange for rallies instead of attending churches for political reasons.
"We have heard the directive from the church and we have directed our members to adhere. We hope Tangatanga members will also take heed of the instructions," said Mr. Murathe.
He emphasized that no leader should ignore the church, stating, "No leader should ignore the church. It is wrong for all of us to take our differences in houses of worship,"
