Kenyan gospel musician Jimmy Gait has started a campaign to ensure there is change in the medical sector. He has urged Kenyans to rally behind him to convince President Uhuru Kenyatta to pass certain bills protecting Kenyans from misdiagnosis and negligence by medical practitioners.
According to Gait, he was diagnosed with a strange throat condition by a Kenyan doctor who recommended an operation. However, after flying to India for specialized treatment, he was diagnosed with hyper-acidity by Dr. Sanjay Khanna, an Indian doctor.
Gait has since written to President Kenyatta, requesting him to ensure the bills he is proposing get to parliament and pass, so as to protect Kenyans. He has also started a petition to raise awareness about the issue and to gather support from Kenyans.
Speaking about his experience, Gait said, 'I am shocked that a doctor would rather make money from me than give me proper treatment.' He also shared that most Kenyan doctors are in the business just to make money and not to help patients as they are supposed to.
Gait's plea came just days after he flew to India to seek specialized treatment. He has since responded well to the treatment and will soon fly back to the country to keep pushing the petition.
