On a typical Saturday morning, Eva Karendi, a 23-year-old waitress at Nice Digital Hotel in Mwea, Meru County, was going about her duties when she stumbled upon a thick purse left behind by a customer. Her initial hesitation gave way to curiosity, and upon checking the contents, she was shocked to find thousands of crisp Sh1,000 notes stacked inside.
Esther Mbaabu, a tutor at Meru Teachers College, had accidentally dropped the purse after dropping her daughter off at school. The money, meant for a group of orphans she supports, was a significant amount, and Esther was worried that she had lost it forever.
Undeterred, Esther took to Google to find the hotel's contact information and was eventually connected with Mr. Kariuki, who informed her that the purse had been found and the money was intact. Overjoyed, Esther made her way back to the hotel on Sunday, where she met Eva, the hotel's director, Njiru Mkombozi, and his wife.
Esther was touched by Eva's unselfish act and the two have since become good friends. Eva's selflessness has not only earned her a hero's welcome but has also opened doors for her education, with Esther offering to support her.
