Kenyan singer Avril has become a household name, but her journey to stardom was not without its challenges. In an interview, she revealed that she prioritized her education, graduating with a degree in design from the University of Nairobi.

Published on September 11, 2019, Avril's story serves as an inspiration to many young women who are torn between pursuing their education and their passions.

"I stuck with my education to the end, living in a servant quarter with my younger brother, but made sure I got my degree," she said in an interview with Dr Kingori.

Despite being encouraged to focus on music, Avril chose to finish her studies first, even using a cooking coil for four years to save money.

It wasn't until her second year at the University of Nairobi that she changed her mind about music and recorded her debut single 'Mama' after signing a record deal with Ogopa.
