McDonald Mariga, the Jubilee Party's candidate for the Kibra by-election, has been disqualified from the race.

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) made the decision after failing to find Mariga's name in the 2017 voters' register.

Mariga had visited the IEBC's offices in Nairobi on Tuesday to present his nomination certificate and undergo a scrutiny process, but was not cleared.

He was announced as the Jubilee Party's candidate for the Kibra by-election on September 2nd, after scoring 500 out of 600 marks in an interview with six panelists.

The Kibra seat fell vacant following the death of former MP Ken Okoth, who passed away on July 26th, 2019, after succumbing to colorectal cancer while undergoing treatment at Nairobi Hospital.

Mariga's disqualification has left the Jubilee Party without a candidate for the November 7th by-election.
