On September 9, 2019, Curacaoan goalkeeper Jarzinho Pieter suffered a heart attack while in the national team camp, preparing for a match against Haiti.

Tragically, Pieter was pronounced dead by the Concacaf football governing body.

At just 31 years old, Pieter had a promising career ahead of him, having made his debut for the Curaçao national football team in a 2-0 friendly win over Aruba on November 14, 2013.

Despite his untimely death, the match against Haiti will proceed on September 10, 2019, with a minute's silence to honor Pieter.

His former teammate, Eloy Room, who plays for MLS side Columbus Crew SC, paid tribute to Pieter on his official social media page.

People of Curacao are mourning the loss of their beloved goalkeeper, who played for Curacao side Centro Dominguito and was a backup goalkeeper for Eloy Room.
