Published on September 10, 2019, Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko is facing numerous challenges, with allegations suggesting that Somali Cartels in the city are planning to replace him with Beatrice Elachi.
According to sources, the cartels are unhappy with Sonko's leadership style, which has seen them lose their grip on the city's affairs. They are said to be using their influence to manipulate the current probe at City Hall, with the help of Majority Leader Abdi Guyo and a senior investigative officer at the Ethics Anti-Corruption Commission.
Guyo and his allies want Elachi to return as county speaker, citing the fact that Sonko has no deputy and would be unable to control her once she takes over. This move would allow the cartels to regain their influence over the city's affairs.
However, Sonko is reportedly considering naming a deputy to take care of his vision for the city and protect him from any eventuality. This move would be a significant blow to the cartels' plans, as they would no longer be able to manipulate the city's affairs from behind the scenes.
It is worth noting that Guyo has been at the center of several controversies in the past, including the impeachment of Elachi and the flagging of a suspicious Sh350 million garbage collection tender. His connections with the cartels and his influence over the city's affairs make him a key player in the ongoing power struggle.
