On September 10, 2019, Jubilee Party issued football star McDonald Mariga with a nomination certificate, paving the way for his clearance by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) ahead of the Kibra by-election.
Presenting the certificate, Jubilee Party Secretary-General Raphael Tuju called for a peaceful campaign period and election, saying,
"We should all remember that there will be a winner and a loser but we will all remain to be Kenyans,"
emphasizing the importance of unity in the face of competition.
Mariga expressed gratitude to the party for believing in him and assured that he is equal to the task, accompanied by legislators Didmas Barasa, Caleb Kositany, Nixon Korir, and Glady Shollei.
