Uncover Skincare has launched its Glow Balm Hydrating Lip Treatment in Kenya and Nigeria, introducing a product designed to address the overlooked needs of lips through SPF 30 protection, long-wear hydration, and a structured gloss finish. The launch coincides with the opening of the brand’s new Ikeja Hub in Lagos, located at 1 Opebi Rd, Allen, Ikeja, creating a physical space for customers to engage with the brand. The product challenges traditional lip care norms, which have long treated lips as a secondary concern despite their exposure to UV radiation and lower melanin levels compared to surrounding skin.

The brand’s co-founder and COO, Jade, emphasized that Glow Balm was developed to meet the demands of consumers who reject compromises in skincare. “We built Glow Balm because the category never built a formula worthy of melanated lips. Protection, hydration, and gloss shouldn’t be a trade-off — they should be a given. This is a lip treatment for women who take up space and were never going to accept a formula that asked them to choose,” she stated. The product combines four UV filters, a blend of shea butter, squalane, and argan oil for hydration, and a peppermint-infused gloss that transforms reapplication into a ritual rather than a chore.

To mark the launch, Uncover Skincare hosted an event in Lagos featuring a fireside conversation titled “Taking Up Space” between Jade and content creator Enioluwa Adeoluwa. The discussion explored the brand’s evolution into lip care, the development of Glow Balm, and the broader cultural significance of self-expression in beauty and business. A panel discussion, “The New Rules of Beauty,” brought together industry leaders including Denise, Editor-in-Chief of Marie Claire Nigeria; Ifeoma Okoye, a beauty influencer; Onyeka Michael Ugwu, founder of Hello Perfect; Bobe Badaki, head of West Africa for Uncover; and Dr. Onyiibekeh Azode, a certified dermatologist and influencer. The conversations highlighted the growing demand for products tailored to melanin-rich skin and the convergence of skincare and makeup in modern beauty routines.

Glow Balm Hydrating Lip Treatment in Mojito Mint is now available in Kenya for KES 1,800 and in Nigeria for NGN 15,000 through Uncover’s direct-to-consumer platform and retail partners, including Lip Tribe in Kenya. The product is recommended for daily use, applied to clean lips morning and evening, either alone or over lip color. The launch underscores a shift in the beauty industry toward prioritizing protection, hydration, and self-expression as interconnected needs, particularly for underrepresented communities.

Uncover Skincare’s initiative reflects a broader movement to challenge traditional beauty standards and address gaps in product innovation. By focusing on the unique challenges faced by melanin-rich skin, the brand aims to redefine what it means to “take up space” in both personal care and professional spheres. The company’s commitment to community engagement, as seen in the Ikeja Hub and its events, signals a strategy centered on education, inclusivity, and cultural relevance.

The product’s pricing and availability in key African markets highlight the growing demand for high-quality, culturally responsive beauty solutions. With its emphasis on SPF protection and hydration, Glow Balm aligns with global trends toward multifunctional skincare, while its messaging resonates with local conversations about identity and empowerment. The launch also positions Uncover Skincare as a leader in addressing the specific needs of African consumers, who often face limited options in the beauty sector.

Uncover Skincare’s approach to lip care exemplifies a broader industry shift toward inclusivity and innovation. By combining scientific formulation with cultural awareness, the brand is setting a new benchmark for products that cater to diverse skin types and lifestyles. As the beauty landscape continues to evolve, initiatives like Glow Balm underscore the importance of listening to consumer needs and reimagining traditional categories to better serve all audiences.
