CS for Industrialization, Peter Munya, has once again disregarded the Board of Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) and overruled their decision on the appointment of a new Managing Director. This is the second time this year that Munya has intervened in the process.
According to sources, the first interviews for the position were conducted by Deloitte and Touche, but the top three candidates were rejected by Munya. The board was then forced to contract AMSTEL to recruit for the position, and after several interviews, they settled on a shortlist of candidates.
However, Munya unilaterally picked his childhood friend, Benard Njiraini, from the shortlist, despite the board's initial preference. The board was allegedly intimidated and threatened with disbandment if they did not support Njiraini's appointment.
