On September 10, 2019, Nairobi News reported on the story of Collins Kiprono, a census enumerator who captured the hearts of many after a video of him playing with children during the census exercise in August went viral on social media.
Despite his jovial nature, Kiprono's life has been marked by struggles. A former street kid, he was meant to graduate in December 2018 with a Bachelor of Science in Geography from Egerton University, but an outstanding fees balance of Sh 58,877 stood in his way.
However, thanks to the intervention of Egerton University Chancellor, Dr Narendra Raval, Kiprono's outstanding fees have been cleared, paving the way for him to receive his degree certificate.
"I can only say asante to everyone who made this possible. Now I can officially graduate and start looking for employment," said Kiprono.
With his outstanding fees cleared, Kiprono will now graduate in late November.
