Published on September 10, 2019, detectives from the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) have been camping at the Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) in Mombasa to investigate claims of corruption and graft.

According to DCI Director George Kinoti, KPA Managing Director Daniel Manduku was questioned by a special team over the alleged overpricing of goods and inflation of tenders. Kinoti stated that Manduku had recorded a statement, but it was unclear when this occurred.

The investigation also involves the expansion of the port in Mombasa and Kisumu, as well as the tender to relocate the Kilindini Oil Terminal. Sources revealed that the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) is also probing additional graft allegations at KPA.

President Uhuru Kenyatta had previously warned KPA managers that those involved in corruption scandals would face consequences when arrested.

Former KPA Procurement Manager Tony Nyamancha defended the companies awarded the tenders, stating that they had been prequalified for biannual tenders and had done nothing wrong.
