On September 8, 2019, Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro was arrested after a chaotic church function in Murang'a county, Kenya. The incident sparked widespread protests in the town.
According to reports, Nyoro was accused of resisting arrest and assaulting a police officer, allegations he has since denied.
His troubles began after an altercation with nominated MP Maina Kamanda during the church function. The situation escalated, with leaders clashing in the sanctuary.
As the news of Nyoro's arrest spread, his supporters took to the streets of Murang'a town, calling for his release. Some rowdy youths were heard chanting anti-Kamanda slogans, criticizing him for being a 'failure' as a nominated MP.
"Kamanda should know this is Murang'a county and not Kiambu, he was defeated by Jaguar and he should respect the people of Murang'a," said one of the protesters.
Nyoro's lawyer, Murang'a Senator Irungu Kang'ata, confirmed that his client was detained at Murang'a police station and would be arraigned on Tuesday, September 10, 2019.
