Mark Kiptoo, a 43-year-old Kenyan marathon runner, is set to return to the Frankfurt Marathon in Germany on October 27, aiming to win the race for a second time and break the world masters' best record.

Published on September 9, 2019, Kiptoo's impressive marathon career has seen him achieve remarkable feats, including becoming the first 40+ runner to break the 2:08 barrier with a time of 2:07:50 at the 2018 Frankfurt Marathon.

With three of his five best marathon times achieved in Frankfurt, Kiptoo's lifetime best is 2:06:00, set in Eindhoven in 2015. He has enjoyed good experiences in the past, finishing second in 2013 and winning in 2014.

"I am very excited to be heading back to the Frankfurt Marathon this year," Kiptoo said. "I have enjoyed good experiences in the past, finishing second in 2013, winning in 2014 and last year of course breaking the world masters' best."

Other Kenyan runners, including Amos Mitei and Kenneth Keter, who finished ahead of Kiptoo last year, will also be returning to the marathon. An Ethiopian runner, Fikre Bekele, who ran 2:06:27 to finish fourth in Seoul this spring, may also emerge as a leader in the pack.

Organisers are expecting up to 14,000 runners to take part in the 38th edition of the Frankfurt Marathon.
