On Sunday, September 8, 2019, an altercation broke out at Gitui Catholic Church in Murang'a, involving Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro and nominated MP Maina Kamanda.

According to Bishop Maria Wainana of Murang'a diocese, the incident demonstrates that politicians often disregard the essence of Christian gatherings.

The altercation began when MP Nyoro stormed into the church, accusing MP Kamanda of interfering with Kiharu politics.

The Catholic Diocese of Murang'a has now called on church leaders to limit or shun politicians who use the pulpit to promote their ideologies.

The Church described the incident as regrettable, unfortunate, and shameful, stating that the house of God should not be used to settle political scores.

The Church is urging the political class to uphold the dignity of the house of God and exercise tolerance in political divergence and decorum of political views.
