This archive report was first published on 9 September 2019.

On Sunday, chaos erupted at Gitui Catholic Church in Kiharu Constituency, prompting Murang'a Catholic Bishop James Maria Wainaina to initiate investigations into the incident.

Speaking to the Nation on September 9, 2019, Bishop Wainaina condemned the chaos, describing it as unfortunate and sad. He also stated that he had not been informed of the fundraiser, which was attended by several Jubilee politicians.

The bishop cautioned politicians who attend church gatherings and fundraisers, saying it is better not to attend and cause mayhem. He also expressed his disappointment that politicians can go to church and leave Christians without peace.

Chairperson of the Bishop's forum, Stephen Maina, blamed the clergy for the incident, stating that they should shoulder the blame for inviting political leaders from both factions to church.

Two MCAs and locals have blamed Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro for causing the mayhem, with Wangu Ward MCA Isaac Kamote accusing him of starting the fights and Ichagaki Ward MCA Charles Mwangi accusing him of trying to take the centre stage at the event.

Mr. Nyoro, however, accused Mr. Kamanda of trying to 'stage a coup' in his own constituency by trying to emcee the event.
