On Sunday, a devastating incident shook the community of Vihiga County when a secondary school teacher, Mr. Daniel Ingoro, took his own life by setting himself ablaze in his house. The incident is suspected to be a case of depression.

According to County Police Commander Hassan Barua, Mr. Ingoro, a Biology and Geography teacher at Hobunaka Secondary School, was due for retirement in six months. The police commander revealed that the victim was seen buying petrol from a nearby petrol station before locking himself in his house and setting it ablaze on Sunday evening.

Mr. Barua also shared that Mr. Ingoro had divorced his wife 40 years ago and never remarried. The police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the tragic event.

As the news of Mr. Ingoro's passing spread, the community was left in shock. Hobunaka Secondary School head teacher William Sunguti described the school as being in a state of shock, with many staff members struggling to come to terms with the loss.

Mr. Sunguti recalled that Mr. Ingoro had prayed for the school after a staff meeting on Friday, just two days before his tragic death. The head teacher described Mr. Ingoro as a reserved man who shared his issues with only a few people.

Mr. Sunguti's words were echoed by Vihiga branch Kuppet Executive Secretary Nebert Isambe, who described Mr. Ingoro as a quiet man who was perfect at his job. Mr. Isambe also urged teachers to share the challenges they are facing, citing the tragic loss of their member.
