On September 7, 2019, Kibra parliamentary aspirant Peter Orero faced off against Bernard Otieno Okoth in the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) primaries.
Okoth, the late Kibra MP Ken Okoth's brother, secured 4,382 votes, while Orero trailed behind with 1,218 votes.
Orero's appeal is based on claims that the register used during the primaries was doctored to favor Okoth, who is popularly known as Imran.
According to a source close to the party, Imran had access to the register while serving at the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) office, where he worked with the register during the issuance of bursary funds to Kibra residents.
ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna confirmed that the party secretariat received an appeal and that the Dispute Resolution Tribunal would hear and determine the case on Monday.
The Kibra by-election is set for November 7, 2019, following the death of former MP Ken Okoth, who succumbed to cancer on July 26, 2019.
As the party grapples with internal factions, supporters fear that the opposition might capitalize on the situation and win the Kibra seat, posing another humiliating defeat for the party.
