On Sunday, September 8, 2019, Kenyan athlete Brigid Kosgei made history by setting a new half marathon world record during the Great North Run in the UK.
She clocked an impressive 1:04:28, surpassing the previous world record of 1:04:51 held by compatriot Joyciline Jepkosgei, who achieved the feat in 2017.
Kosgei's achievement marked a clean sweep for Kenyan athletes in the women's race, with Magdalene Masai emerging second in 67:36 and Linet Masai sealing the podium places in 67:44.
Notably, New York Marathon champion Mary Keitany, who is also the women's only world record holder in marathon, came in fourth with a time of 67:58.
Farah, 36, finished the 13.1 miles in 59 minutes and six seconds after racing ahead of Tamirat Tola in a personal best time.
