September 8, 2019, marked a day of reflection for many, as American author Earl Nightingale shared a poignant story about a farmer who limited himself by refusing to take risks.
The farmer's story serves as a reminder that we often hold ourselves back from achieving our goals due to fear and self-doubt. We play it safe, sticking to what we know, rather than taking the leap and facing our fears head-on.
As Nightingale so aptly put it, 'You gain strength, courage and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face.'
However, it's not just fear that holds us back. The word 'cannot' has a profound impact on our mindset, paralysing us and turning us into self-doubting losers. It's a word that can switch our mind into a negative frequency, making it difficult to take the first step towards achieving our goals.
But the truth is, our thoughts are ours to control. If we think we 'can', we are right. If we think we 'cannot', we are right too. The universe reflects our thoughts and energy back at us, so it's up to us to choose our mindset.
Success is not just about reaching our goals, but about moving towards them. It's about honouring our commitments and pushing through challenges, even when it's difficult. As Seraphine Ruligirwa-Kamara, an expert on Attitude and Human Potential, so eloquently puts it, 'Reaching the goal, however impressive it may be, is not in itself success. To begin with, success is whatever you make it out to be at any given time.'
