Kibra By-Election: Bernard Otieno Okoth Wins ODM Ticket ¶
Published on September 8, 2019
Bernard Otieno Okoth, the brother of late Ken Okoth, has emerged victorious in the ODM ticket for the Kibra by-election. He secured 4,382 votes, followed by Peter Orero with 1,218 votes and John Milla Otieno with 906 votes.
Okoth's win comes after a keenly contested primary election held on September 7, 2019. The election was characterized by a high turnout of voters, with the IEBC ensuring a peaceful process.
However, there were reports of irregularities, with some voters claiming that their names were missing from the IEBC list. The election was held at the Kibra Primary School, with the results announced by Mac Oremo, the IEBC official.
Okoth's win sets the stage for a fierce battle in the upcoming by-election, which is expected to be held on November 7, 2019. He will face off against other candidates, including Macdonald Mariga of Jubilee, Eliud Owalo of ANC, and Khamisi Butichi of Ford Kenya.
The Kibra constituency has been vacant since the death of Ken Okoth on July 26, 2019. Okoth was ailing from cancer and had been undergoing treatment for several months.
