Kibra By-Election: Bernard Imran Wins ODM Ticket

Published on September 8, 2019, at 6:55 AM

Bernard Otieno Okoth, also known as Imran, has emerged as the winner of the ODM party primaries for the Kibra by-election. He garnered 4,382 votes, beating nine other aspirants.

Imran, the brother of the late Kibra Member of Parliament Ken Okoth, will now face off with other candidates in the Kibra by-election slated for November 7, 2019.

The Kibra parliamentary seat fell vacant following the death of Ken Okoth in July 2019. Okoth had been battling colorectal cancer and was on treatment for nearly seven months both locally and abroad.

Imran trounced his closest rival, Peter Orero, who received 1,218 votes, and John Milla Otieno, who came third with 906 votes.

The ODM primaries were generally peaceful, but a few incidents were reported, including voters complaining that their names were missing from the IEBC register.

Imran will now face off with candidates from other parties, including Jubilee Party's Macdonald Mariga, Amani National Congress (ANC) party's Eliud Owalo, and Khamisi Butichi from Ford Kenya.
