On September 8, 2019, Kenya's Cabinet Secretary for Tourism and Wildlife, Najib Balala, emphasized the need for standards and certifications in the spa and wellness industry during a meeting with the Spa and Wellness Association of Africa in Mombasa.
According to Balala, the industry is ripe for standards that conform to global standards, which would benefit from the introduction of a curriculum with training in the industry through the Kenya Utalii College.
He urged the Tourism Regulatory Authority and the Spa and Wellness Association of Africa to work together for the formulation of standards to enhance the offering to travelers and tourists.
"I believe there is potential in this kind of tourism, and that is why I am urging both the Tourism Regulatory Authority and the Spa and Wellness Association of Africa to work together for the formulation of standards to help enhance the offering to travelers and tourists," he said.
