On September 5, 2019, a significant operation by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) led to the arrest of a 27-year-old Kenyan man in Nairobi.
The suspect, identified as Bobby Kariuki, was apprehended at a house in Kileleshwa estate, Nairobi, following a tip-off from members of the public.
According to the DCI, the counterfeit currencies found on Kariuki were in the form of United States Dollars, Euros, and Pounds, with a total value of Sh200 million.
His arrest comes on the heels of a similar incident in Matuu, Machakos County, where a Nigerian and Congolese national were apprehended for possessing forged Kenyan currency.
Under Section 367 (a) of the Penal Code, being in possession of fake currency is a crime that attracts a jail term of seven years.
Kariuki is set to be arraigned in court on Friday to face charges of being in possession of fake currency.
