Published on September 7, 2019, a deadly lightning strike at Kwa Haraka village in Kinangop, Nyandarua county killed two people and left one person hospitalized.
The victims were among a group of people helping move a grader stuck in the mud after a heavy downpour in the area. The two who died were identified as George Oganda and Abdallah Muraguri.
George Oganda was the driver of the grader attached to the government Transport Mechanical Fund constructing roads in Nyakio ward. The third victim, Harrison Githinji, was admitted at Engineer hospital in a critical condition after the incident.
"The three were among those staff constructing roads in the region. As they were heading back to the site, the grader got stuck. That is when they called for help and suddenly, the lightning struck killing the two on the spot," said Joshua Kariuki.
Nyandarua Governor Francis Kimemia has condoled with the families of the deceased. "It is regrettable that we have lost the two. Muraguri was the coach of Spottf football club while Oganda was the driver of the grader. We will do everything possible to help the families as the county government" he said in a statement.
