On September 7, 2019, detectives made a significant breakthrough in the 72M Nairobi West heist, arresting two rogue officers suspected of masterminding the crime.

According to the DCI, the officers were arrested in Kisii and Kendu Bay, with Sh7 million and a vehicle recovered from the scene.

Constable Chris Ayienda was arrested in Kisii, where Sh4 million was found, but further interrogation led the officers to Kendu Bay in Homa Bay, where his accomplice Vincent Owuor was arrested and another Sh3 million recovered.

At Owuor's Kendu Bay house, a brand new Subaru Forester car was also recovered, which detectives believe was bought using the stolen money on the same day of the heist.

The two suspects were planning to travel to Uganda with the loot, but will be arraigned next week to face charges.

Additionally, three other suspects were arrested in connection with the heist, after detectives found a getaway vehicle used in the heist in their garage.
