Published on September 7, 2019, the ODM party nominations in Kibra kicked off with a mix of excitement and drama.

At least 10 aspirants, including Peter Orero (Mwalimu), Christone Odhiambo (Kris Darlin), Stephen Okello, Tony Sira, Reuben Ojijo, Eric Ochieng, Shem Owino, Benson Musungu, John Otieno, and Bernard Okoth, were vying for the party's flag bearer in the Kibra constituency.

However, the process was not without its challenges. Several party loyalists who had turned up to pick the ODM flag bearer were left disappointed after missing their names on the party register.

Some of those whose names were appearing on the register had incorrect ID numbers, adding to the confusion.

By 9:30 AM, voting was yet to start at several polling stations, including Ayany Primary school, where scores had lined up to choose the party's candidate in the race to succeed Ken Okoth.

At one point, the nomination exercise had to be halted after residents demanded to see the official IEBC register, but party officials moved in swiftly to contain the situation.

Police were on standby in the high-stakes exercise, which was a curtain-raiser for the ultimate battle between Raila Odinga's ODM party candidate and DP Ruto's backed candidate, McDonald Mariga.

Turnout was low at Olympic Primary school, where the exercise was smoothly conducted.
