On September 7, 2019, detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) arrested Mombasa law courts principal Magistrate Edgar Matsigulu Kagoni and three court officials for mishandling exhibits.
According to the DCI, the principal magistrate and his accomplices allegedly lost approximately 10 kilograms of heroin valued at 30 million shillings and various currencies worth over 600,000 shillings.
The suspects, who are in police custody, will be charged with obstruction of justice and aiding and abetting the trafficking of narcotic drugs.
The offences were committed in July 2018 at Mombasa Law Courts, and the arrests come hours after the Director of Public Prosecutions ordered their arrest.
