Mombasa Principal Magistrate Edgar Kagoni Arrested Over Sh30M Heroin Case

On July 2018, a shocking incident occurred at the Mombasa Law Courts, which would lead to the arrest of a high-ranking official. The incident involved the mishandling of a 10kg heroin exhibit worth Sh3m.

According to a statement from the DCI, the principal magistrate, Hon. Edgar Matsigulu Kagoni, recklessly handled the exhibits, resulting in the loss of approximately 10 Kgs of heroin valued at Ksh. 30M and cash of various currencies valued at over Ksh. 600K.

Those arrested include:

  • Hon. Edgar Matsigulu Kagoni, Principal Magistrate
  • Mr. Abdalla Awadh Abubakar, Executive Assistant, Mombasa
  • Mr. Lawrence Thoya Bayan, Staff
  • Mr. Onesmus Momanyi, Court Assistant, Ruiru

The suspects are currently in police custody and will spend the weekend as guests of the state. Charges preferred against them include Obstruction with Intent to defeat Justice and Aiding and Abetting Trafficking in Narcotic Drugs.
