On September 6, 2019, the government confirmed the deportation of Ali Oumarou, the Managing Director of Kiza, a high-end night club in Nairobi's Kilimani area.
According to Interior Ministry Spokesperson Wangui Muchiri, Ali Oumarou was deported two weeks prior for being on an international criminal list for various serious crimes.
Ali, who is married to a Kenyan woman and had settled in the country, had been missing in action. His Safaricom line had been offline for some time, and he rarely commented or posted in WhatsApp groups.
However, a close friend of his wife revealed that Ali was arrested in Nyahururu, where he had gone into hiding, and was deported back to Niger with his passport stamped 'persona non grata', meaning he cannot return to Kenya.
Contrary to these claims, Ali's wife Judy denied that her husband had been deported, stating that he was in Ethiopia on official duty as Niger's diplomatic attaché to Kenya.
Despite this denial, a screenshot circulating online shows Ali's wife celebrating her birthday on August 5, 2019, at a party hosted by Kiza, where Ali was noticeably absent.
