On September 16, 2018, a 15-year-old Form Two girl was on her way home from Merti town when a bodaboda rider, Nura Godana Galgalo, attempted to defile her in Isiolo.
Galgalo, 19, was found guilty of the crime and sentenced to 10 years in prison by Chief Magistrate Samuel Mungai.
The girl told the court that Galgalo, who she knew well, diverted from the road and tried to pull her into the bushes, but she managed to escape after he received a phone call.
She ran to her sister's house at nearby Mararba centre, where she spent the night.
A medical examination report showed that the girl had an old perforated hymen.
The prosecution presented four witnesses, including the girl's mother, whose evidence corroborated the minor's testimony.
